Everyone has scars to show.
A Vacant Affair (AVA) was formed in the aftermath of Cheap Thrills, at a crucial point in the latter’s existence. It was then in the July of 2004 that the founding members of the group, Matt and Shen decided to evolve the band beyond its happy-go-lucky jamming days and bring its ambition to greater heights.
Under the name A Vacant Affair, the band recruited then sessionist Rudi
and Josh into the ranks to play guitar. Hafiz was welcomed into the fold as the drummer. In a bid to bring the intensity of our material further up a notch, AVA then enlisted the talents of Aaron.
With a fresh sound, evolved from genres such as alternative, emo, hardcore, metal and its variations, AVA dived headfirst into the Singapore underground scene with a fresh sound and much impact, playing gigs at venues like the Substation, Plaza Singapura, Cineleisure, Republic Polytechic and even at a D&D at Fullerton. They have also played for Stasis 7 and Tsunami Relief @ Zouk. Along the way, the band recorded their first song ‘How About Enough’, which garnered a loyal following over live shows and online mediums such as Friendster, Myspace and Purevolume.
“The time has come to recover what we lost” declares vocalist/lyricist Matt in rousing fashion in the epic 7 minute opus The Departure, over soaring angular guitar lines strewn like bullets across a battlefield, further emphasized with pinpoint drum and bass lockdowns.
This is the journey you choose to take. These are the scars that have only made us stronger. And this is for the scars we have yet to receive. This is A Vacant Affair.
