Set For Glory is a young band that is making quite a buzz
in the local scene in Singapore. With an average age of seventeen, the
band consists of Nico (Vocals & Guitar), Faris (Bass & Vocals),
Titus (Drums), & Sameer (Guitar). Fueled by their energetic stage
performances, and a passionate love for music, the members of the band
come from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures stretching continents
from Europe to Asia.
Formed in the fall of 2003, Set For Glory is a Singaporean based pop-punk/emo
band. Since their formation, the band has embarked on journeys they previously
could have only dreamt of. Within the first three months of their debut
in the local scene, a self-released five track Extended Play (EP), entitled
'Skyline' was put out. The EP sold out exactly 2 months after its release
in Singapore which was quite an achievement considering the fact that
Set For Glory was still in its early months.
In July 2004, less than a year after its formation, Set For Glory signed
a distribution deal with Los Angeles based label, Statue Records, which
granted the label permission to re-release their debut EP to the masses.
Along with new artwork, a new title, and a new track, the now self-titled
EP was released in America on December 21th 2004. The re-release of their
EP there attracted a substantial following of supporters and well-wishers
in North America.
Along with the release of their EP, the band is also working on material
for their debut full length CD at the ever popular Snakeweed Acoustic
Labs, with producer Leonard Soosay, who is most notable for his work with
some of the biggest names that have come out of the local music scene:
Plainsunset, Urban Exchange, and more recently, MTV Asia nominees, Pug-Jelly
& Electrico. The highly anticipated record, has no set release date
yet.
The band has played alongside some of the islands’ biggest acts,
starting with the “Samsung SkyDive” as well as the Singapore
American School’s “Peace Concert” – both in 2004.
But there biggest show came in 2005, when they became the youngest band
ever to play at “BayBeats 2005”, an annual indie/alternative
three day festival in Singapore. In its 4th year, BayBeats showcases over
30 local, regional and international acts. This platform had given the
boys the chance to play in front of their biggest crowd yet, and to share
the stage with their heroes, Copeland & Brandtson from the USA.
Also In 2005, Set For Glory became the first band to be endorsed by Singaporean
based clothing company, Crxssmyheart Clothing. The band also joined one
of South East-Asia's biggest indie label Wakemeup Music. The WMUM family,
is home to the likes of Verticalrush, Sky In Euphoria, Surreal, and formerly
of Plainsunset (R.I.P.), and Pug-Jelly (R.I.P.).
2005 has definitely been a huge year for the boys. With a solid and loyal
fan base that’s constantly growing, the band will continue to strive
for bigger and better things for themselves and their fans and hope for
the best. What the future holds is unknown, but one thing is for sure,
get ready to hear plenty of these guys in the years to come.
